Frozen Semen foals on ground

2007 foaling season saw the arrival of the first frozen semen foals at Longspring Stud. Three colt foals by three different top jumping sires from overseas were the result of careful preparation the year before. All three got in foal with only one dose of semen each using Syenz and their process of round the clock mare oestrus detection – 4-6 hourly scanning including through the night!

Larinium LS

Larinium LS

Larinium LS featured on the cover of the Breeders Guide at the 2008 Horse of the Year Show. He was almost always the pick of the litter by visitors to the stud.

Larinium LS is by top Dutch Warmblood jumping sire LARINO who is by Sire of the Year 2004 Concorde out of Daboo LS who is by Distelfink out of one of Longspring’s best families. The family produced The Minder (by The Immigrant) who sold to Japan; Dow Jones LS (by Distelfink) who sold to the USA; another mare by The Immigrant who sold back to Holland as a young rider horse (and did very well!) and Donatello who won the style prize at the National Breeders Championship as a 6 year old but was injured at the start of a very promising career.

A sister Something Special (2005) by Sunset Sam LS is the best and most stylish jumper of her crop!

Larinium was gelded and will be prepared by Longspring for the Age Series and subsequent sale.

Concord Dawn LS

Concord Dawn LS

Concord Dawn (named after a NZ band) is by the legendary sire Concorde from Nijhof Stud in Holland. Concord was Hollands Horse of the Year in 2004 based on the performance of his progreny.

This foal is out of Toujours LS who is out of the full sister to Duty Free who with Maurice Beatson was one of NZ’s top showjumpers and including wins in World Cup rounds in NZ and Australia. He was rarely out of the top 5 placings at any Grand Prix. This family also produced an eventer who sold to Italy.

Concord Dawn is himself a tall good looking foal with a great intelligence about him. He has been left entire and will be a stallion prospect in the years to come as well as showjumping under the Longspring banner.

Frampton LS

Frampton LS

Frampton LS is out of D’Amour LS, the full sister to Duty Free (and mother of Toujours). He is by Wodan, a 17.0hh black fully licensed Hannoverian who sold for $900,000 in the early 1980’s which was a record price then for a showjumper. He had a showjumping career with Frankie Sloothak and jumped at top level. Wodan is bred on exactly the same lines as the legendary Witzbold – limited frozen semen is available from Syenz.

Frampton LS is a very tall good looking young colt with a beautiful face. A series of unfortunate mishaps early on in life has shown him to be tough and resilient (also providing interesting case studies for Victoria’s class). Longspring also intend to keep him as a stallion prospect as he has the pedigree, size and overall conformation to be a top horse.
